“Sometimes life is hard for no reason at all.” Gregory Howard was struggling to get Remember the Titans publicized, making life hard for him just waiting around for someone to say yes. Facing a lot of obstacles that he wanted and needed to overcome. So it is not surprising that Remember the Titans being a sports movie had obstacles that the team had to overcome, it was more surprising that the movie itself had obstacles to face and overcoming just to get the script bought and produced. The movie does a very good job of showing the truth of racism and how evil it can be and how serious it is. Wood Harris says that “Race and racism are things that historically are serious, and we as a culture are too ignorant to present it in any kind of less than very realistic way” (Spencer 9). In the beginning of the movie it started out with three schools all with different ethnicities coming together to form one big school. These schools overcame the adversary of racism and became unified now obviously during this time there was still racism but this school did it so well that as Amy S. Tate notes the highschool was “becoming the model for every highschool in the United States” (Tate 1). The movie shows racism throughout with the white coach getting fired and the school hiring a black coach instead the white players thought they were not going to be treated as well as the black players because of the coaches skin color. The black coach also faced opposition and suppression from the white school board that he had no margin for error and he accomplished that by winning all of his scheduled games and taking the team to the state finals and winning it. I don’t think ‘Remember the Titans’ reveals the ugly truth, but I think it’s a step,” Harris said. “It brings you into the discussion, and now you can go visit the truth of things” (Spencer 9). This movie brought the thought of racism to the eyes of many and showed how detrimental it can be. This movie made such a big impact on the human race because of its emotional drama towards the aspect of racism and how a human spirit can be changed for the better. As Denzel Washington said “I don’t think it’s a football movie. I think it’s a movie about the potential of the human spirit.” (Spencer 3). Critical Analysis of the film Remember the Titans stated that “Remember the Titans is one of the greatest, if not the greatest sports movie of all time.” (3). This movie shows how a team unites to overcome the odds and never give up. That attitude is one of the reasons it did so well. The emotions were a key factor of success, there was a balance of triumph and sadness throughout the movie.
