In The Auction of the Ruby Slippers the author, Salman Rushdie, makes a commentary on present day materialism. Rushdie illuminates his thoughts on this issue with a satirical approach, which is focused on a pair of ruby slippers, which cause so much awe that people literally die by kissing the case that they are enclosed by.
