Have you ever read a banned book before? I recently read the banned book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Although the book was amazing, I can see why and also agree that Fahrenheit 451 should be censored for those not in high school. Overall, the book was cataclysmic as it contained several inappropriate and violent themes that would give people a concern to censor it. Fahrenheit 451 is a book that surrounds a fireman named Guy Montag and his revelations of the world he lives in. He becomes aware of the horrible things that occur around him and begins to notice them more. The article "Fahrenheit 451." from Novels for Students (a section of Gale Virtual Reference Library) states that one reason why Fahrenheit 451 is banned is because “The book people, represented mostly by scholars, will save humanity, while ordinary people like Mildred contribute to the degradation of society by falling victim to social conformity”, which made some readers angry. Another reason why Fahrenheit 451 was banned was that it “appeared in this political climate of technologically supported suspicion and censorship, a climate which seemed to promise the possibility of the mass conformity in our citizenry” states Edward E. Ellis in “Overview of Fahrenheit 451” (another Gale Resource). To clarify, Fahrenheit 451 was released after World War 2 when burning books was common. If you were to read the book you would also see that the book is banned for its mature themes. On page 13 of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Montag comes into his house from work to find a “crystal bottle of sleeping tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty capsules and which now lay uncapped and empty” and his wife lying on the bed with soulless glass
