In Austin Texas, from 1884-1885, a serial killer referred to as the Servant Girl Annihilator began preying on the city murdering eight victims (five black women, two white women, and one black man). Each of the victims were indoors in their beds asleep at the time of the attacks. Of the women, five were alive but unconscious when they were dragged outside and mutilated. An eyewitness who claimed to have seen the murders, reported false information to the police indicating that the killer was white or “yellow man” wearing lampblack to hide his skin tone.
