The Bible and Homosexuality For centuries, the Bible has been used as a way for the human race to maintain a relationship with God. This book is our counselor, as the Bible answers abiding questions we may have in the word of God. The Bible plays a huge role in decision making for many Christians. In modern time, the question of homosexuality has become a real issue in society, especially in the Christian community. According to the Bible, homosexual desire is not what God originally intended. The story of the wrecking of the two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, in the book of Genesis is one of the few examples that the Old Testament has for homosexual acts. Leviticus draws out a set of priestly laws for the social and moral norms of Israel. The Leviticus eventually became a source to Christian’s for answering moral questions, significantly towards relationships and homosexuality. The passage from Leviticus goes towards the idea that there are actions out there that you should not generally consider taking action of. “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). The beginning part of this verse explains that a male should not be with another male nor a woman should not be with another woman. The last part of this verse reveals that doing so is considered to be a disgrace. By doing homosexual acts, it is thought to be rebellious behavior towards God. Deeper into the topic of homosexuality, Leviticus also states, “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them,” (Leviticus 20:13).
