pressure changes the meaning of Humanity. The body if christopher Creed by Carol Plum-Ucci displays how people's fear pressures them to wrongfully blame others in order to escape the situation that the themselves have created, which in our case is the disappearance of Christopher Creed. This whole situation separates the citizen of Steepleton into two sides having a major impact on several but most on 17 year old Torey, Mrs. Creed and Allie who then realize that they were a part of Chris's
Chris McCandless was a young man who had a lot going for him. He decided to end his schooling and get rid of his life by leaving his life behind and hitchhiking all the way to Alaska and living off the land up there. Unfortunately this story doesn’t have a happy ending. Chris McCandless dies in Alaska, he was found in August of 1992 by a moose hunter who had found him inside an old school bus that Chris was living in. Chris died from eating berries that were poisonous and wouldn’t allow him to digest food causing him to die of starvation.
(Plum-Ucci 229). She loves and cares for him deeply and strongly believes that he never should never have gone through such a life- changing experience like that. Along the same lines, Mrs. Creed has a great deal of love for Christopher, but shows it differently than Mrs. Adams does. Mrs. Creed has a more vigilant form of showing love, like when she explains that, “‘Chris was allowed to go out! [Mr. and Mrs. Creed] offered to drive him to the dances!
Chris is a 22-year-old, who grew up in an abusive family. He was always blamed for the conflict in the house. He was good at everything and this made him very strong-headed and always felt he had to do more. Chris has a sweet tooth for adventure and survival. Chris heads out to the Alaskan Frontier which led to his death caused by starvation.
At the fault of his father, he reacted rashly. “When Walt’s double life came to light, the revelations inflicted deep wounds. All parties suffered terrible.” This would be a negative turning point in anyone's life, but Chris was wrong to just pack up and take himself to his death.
After no luck on the interrogators side, Chris is allowed to have some time alone with his dad, in which Chris told him, “I don’t want to protect her” (Denver 7). Chris then went on to explain to his dad that Shannan killed Bella and Celest, and in return he killed Shannan out of anger for what she had done. Despite Chris’ first confession, his words turned out to be false. According to the press release from the Frederick Police Department on Archive.org, He was charged with three counts of murder in the first degree, for murdering his pregnant wife, Shannan, as well as his two kids, Bella, age 4, and Celeste, age 3.
He had found out his parents weren’t married when they had him and his sister so they were bastard children. He also finds out his father has had an affair with his ex-wife while still being married to his current wife. All this pushes Chris to the point of not ever being around because he morally couldn’t look past it. Before completely disappearing he had wrote his to his sister and talked about how he couldn’t stand his parents. "I'm going to divorce them as my parents once and for all and never speak to either of those idiots again as long as I live."
As the days dragged on and they didn't hear from their son, the parents' anger quickly became worry. As I read how Chris's disappearance affected the family, I learned that judgment about someone can change when you learn of their death. When I read about Chris's death in the Alaskan wilderness, I could only ask, "Who would he hurt by doing this to himself?" Although he died, his actions had
As a reader you only get Torey’s stories of Chris and what he could be like at times. As the author goes deeper in telling Chris’s story Torey realizes that Chris was a good person who was pressured by so many people to do good, “‘I think Chris snapped. I think he flipped out from a combo of everything. School, being lonely, but mostly because of his parents.’” (47).
He is our protagonist and as we come to learn he isn't the nicest one out there, but this is mainly for his autism coming into play during most of his adventures. Near the end of the book christopher is forced to learn how to get over his fears to be able to go to his mothers but in his own unique way, “And it was like counting and saying, ‘Left, right, left, right, left, right. . .’ which Siobhan taught me to do to make myself calm. And I was saying in my head, ‘Train coming. Train stopped.
Chris claims that it was a foiled suicide pact. This leads both families to question how well they knew their children, which sends some into a spiralling path of regret and denial, and others on a journey to find the truth. The two families are torn apart, fighting
He wanted to ditch his old life so maybe he was trying to cut off ties to the world as well. If you take that the wrong way his death may seem like suicide suddenly, but from many other papers that is not implied. The majority think that it was just an unfortunate few events that led to his death. If Chris would have taken a few more resources his life possibly would have lasted longer than it did, and using his story wrote an inspiration book. But he died, so there’s no reason to play the game of “what-if” because it could go an infinite number of ways.
He’d successfully kept Jan Burres and Wayne Westerberg at arm’s length, flitting out of their lives before anything was expected of him. And now he’d slipped painlessly out of Ron Franz’s life as well,” every time someone tried to become close to him, he pushed him or her away. When Ronald Franz asked to adopt him, Chris told him that they would talk about it when he returns from Alaska. Chris’ problems with his father affected his ability to form new, close relationships, and ultimately sent him to his death.
Chris had his reasons to be there he wanted to get away from everything and he wanted to free. I believe that he also did what he did because of his past with how his dad would abuse him which could have led him to have mental problems. In one of the quotes of chris states that “don’t hesitate or allow yourself to make excuses. just get out and do it you will be very very glad you did it” this what he wanted to do and he went after it and did it. In the end of the book it shows how Chris felt like he had done what he was somewhat ment to accomplish and it also shows that he was happy with the outcome even though he died.
Chris’s death did not actually surprise anyone it was actually expected. The cause of Chris’s death was because of dried seedpods. At the end of Into the Wild Jon Krakauer described the reason Chris died. As you continue to read on Jon said that Chris died because “Between meals he stored those green seedpods in damp unclean ziploc bags an excellent culture for the proliferation of mold,” (Krakauer 194). This quote tells that he died because the seeds in the ziploc bag got really damp and so it molded and Chris didn’t know because he doesn't know what mold looks like.
