You hate Hitler, and befriend the blacks? The bad news is, you would probably be beaten to death in the 1940’s. Although, the good news is you are not alone. The Book Thief and The Help are both very important novels showing people who see through the unpopular perspective. Both showing how important it is to stand up for the things you believe in. Liesel and Skeeter are the two main characters in The Book Thief and The Help. Liesel and Skeeter are similar in the way that they became strong women in their books. These books, while favoring one side do show both sides of the issue. People would hopefully see that there is always two sides to an argument, and sometimes you are not right. I think people would learn to make their own opinion rather than following along with everyone else, because you can not make change thinking the way everyone else does. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing if these two books were the only piece of literature from their times. I definitely think that Liesel’s journey was the hardest. Her story shows that not everyone comes out without a scratch. Liesel lost her whole family. While her family’s death was not the result of their personal opinion on Hitler and the Jews, it was the conclusion of her journey. It would be so hard for things to finally be getting better, and it all to be silenced with an unexpected bombing. Especially if you were the only one to survive. In conclusion, The Book Thief and The Help are two fantastic pieces of literature. Liesel and Skeeter show us their lives and teach us some lessons. They show us their journeys into womanhood, and how they made a difference in people’s lives. They teach us that just because you believe in the unpopular perspective does not mean you are wrong.
