There were several characters that became part of Elie’s journey in the book; Shlomo, Moishe the Beadle, Idek, Dr. Josef Mengele, and so on. Shlomo, his father, is present throughout most of the book. He is highly respected by the Jewish community of Sighet, especially by his son. Alongside Elie, they try to remain together throughout their time at the concentration camp. Elie gains a will to survive for his father, for example on pages 75-76, when his father does not pass the selection he states “How good would it be to die right here!”

This passage is important because right away it shows foreshadowing, even though it was hard to realize at first. Once the end of the book is revealed, then this passage starts to stand out. The reader would think that Howard would be hanged in Jerusalem by Israeli police and guards, but instead he took his own matters in his hands once he is released from the prison. The visit to Ohrdruf was intended for Howard to realize the damage he had made to others. During this time, he did not feel much emotion, but the reader would not know why until the end of the book is revealed.

Robert Cormier wrote his book Heroes in 1998. The book is about a character named Francis who fought in World War II and he for some reason wants to kill Larry LaSalle but no one knows why. Cormier uses foreshadowing and flashbacks to make the story suspenseful and to continue to grab the reader’s attention. Cormier uses foreshadowing to create suspense that Francis Cassavant is going to kill Larry LaSalle.

The Book Thief Narrative Tension Markus Zusak uses all three forms of narrative tension in his story, The Book Thief, but it is clear that anticipation is the most used out of all of them. An early example of this is when Zusak uses anticipation at the beginning of the section, The Eclipse, to gain the reader's attention. Zusak foreshadows the future by using colors associated with certain events. Zusak starts The Eclipse by saying, “Next is the signature black, to show the poles of my versatility, if you like. It was the darkest moment before dawn.”

Growing as a Character Every event in our lives happens for a reason, whether it is to learn from our mistakes or to gain experience from them. In Markus Zusak's novel “The Book Thief,” Liesel Meminger uses her experiences with living in the 1940s to learn life lessons and experience first hand the many terrible things Hitler is doing to people around her. She learns how to deal with the many obstacles that are thrown at her. Liesel grows as a character by following her step-father’s footsteps in being a kind and generous person, going through childhood with her best friend Rudy, and being aware of what is going on around her by learning from Max.
There are many causes that led Young Goodman Brown to attend the ceremony. First he was tempted when the Devil offered his staff so that Brown could reach his destination faster. Brown Thwarted this temptation using his love of God and the love of his wife to strengthen his convictions. Later on Goodman Brown heard the minister and several other leaders of Salem at the ceremony. This led Brown to abandon his love of God as a means to overcome temptation.
The characters in a story. They are hard to bring to life, yet a story would be incomplete without them. I love to write, and I often don’t have troubles creating my characters. But what makes every character stand out is that special thing about each and every one of them. That’s one thing that I loved about “The Book Thief,” by Markus Zusak.
Don Marquis wrote an article titled “Why Abortion is Immoral.” He suggested that we address abortion in a larger discussion of the ethics of killing. Marquis believes killing is not wrong because it portrays the killer to be violent or because it leaves friends and relatives brokenhearted. Instead, killing is wrong mainly because of the effect it has on the victim. Killing deprives the victim of life.
Words in The Book Thief demonstrates that words and language have immense power. Words can be used in a negative or positive ways. Hitler used words to spread propaganda in a fallacious way which led to deleterious human beings. The people (Germans) that lived during the war were credulous about what Hitler said therefore their life turned out to be debacle. Hitler used words to deceive and outsmart the others, he implanted words and images into the Jews heads to think a certain way(Zusak, Markus Frank.
The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, is a film adaptation of a book by Mark Zusak centred around adolescent girl Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nelisse). Set in Germany during the early-mid 1940’s, leading up to the war, Liesel is sent away from her family to live with foster parents since she is at risk of being killed due as her parents are communists. Percival uses skilfully chosen aural and visual elements as well as cinematic techniques such as lighting and camera angles to communicate and explore the central theme to the audience: the power of human spirit, especially when dealing with adversity. Percival designs the aural elements in the scenes that make up the film The Book Thief to communicate and allow the audience to explore the power of the human spirit when dealing with adversity. Percival does this by using the aforementioned techniques to create juxtapositions, contrasting the power of the human spirit against adversity.
