In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak, there is a little girl in Nazi Germany during WW2 who was left by her mother because they had no money, and she was later adopted by a German family. They loved to use bad words as a sign of affection, which is explored in this essay on the power of words.

First, the power of words is explored in the characters in The Book Thief. For example, Liesel is affected by the power of words because her mom screams lots of bad words at her (Zusak 7). This means her mom shows love to Liesel by saying bad words to her and being mean to her. In addition, Liesel's papa also has moments in the book where he shows the power of words by singing songs

To clarify, in the Hubermann household, they use lots of swear words to show love and affection for her (Zusak 27). In order to understand, Rosa Hubermann gets mad at Liesel because life is very tough for them, and they have a very diminutive amount of money, during WW2. This results in Rosa getting very angry because she has lots of stress between her and Papa. Similarly, Rosa is non-stop calling her bad words because Liesal asks too many questions and it puts her under more stress (Zusak 177). The issue of Rosa getting mad is portrayed by the events of WW2 and anxiety. Rosa getting mad at Liesel is because she is hard, and Rosa is just trying to show affection for Liesel. As can be seen, Rosa is very angry and has lots of anxiety, resulting in her taking it out of Liesel. Specifically, when Leisel’s papa plays the accordion for her and sings songs (Zusak 19). The expert explains Liesel's papa really drives the book forward and shows how the power of words takes place at that time. Likewise, Lisel’s mom also uses the power of words and says bad words to her, and this also really helps to drive the plot forward. In the same way as Liesel’s dad playing the accordion for her, it’s the opposite for her mom, instead, she says bad things and naughty words to her (Zusak 84). Resulting from her mom saying things, it really builds the story when Liesel uses these words to her peers in school. One reason for her using these bad words has resulted in her also getting into some fights, causing her to almost kill another peer in her school. Consequently, the power of words is heavily shown in The Book Thief, which has allowed the book thief to be driven forward a lot because Liesel's mom, and dad use the power of words at an extensive rate in this novel.
