Swish, the sound a ball makes when it goes through the hoop. The Boston Celtics are a team very successful when it comes to that aspect of the game. They have won many championships and have lead the NBA as the best team during the regular season plenty of times. Many Hall of Fame players have came through the organization the most famous being Larry Bird. The Boston Celtics are the most successful team in NBA history but winning championships does not only depend on the players on the court but also the people in the front office who finds the players. Without the people in the offices of the Boston Celtics throughout the years the successes they have obtained would not have existed.

Changes were need in the organization if they wanted to taste victory and that was the front office job. As the next season approached new players were signed and the changes made by the front office improved the team’s standing in the BAA but they couldn’t keep the results and would go back to their losing ways in their third season as a team. Walter A. Brown decided it was time for a new head coach so he wanted the team's opinion on who he should consider bring into the organization and they decided on Red Auerbach (Celtics History). Red Auerbach was the team’s third coach in five years and before his gig in Boston he led the Washington Capitals to the finals but couldn't win it. Prior to his first season with Boston Auerbach made many notable moves to improve his new team. He snubbed a future hall of famer in Bob Cousy and drafted Chuck Cooper the first African American to be drafted in National Basketball Association he effectively broke down the color barrier present in the league at the time. Whatever Auerbach did worked the new team centered around future hall of famer Ed Macauley improved to a thirty nine wins and thirty losses record but ended up losing in the playoffs. Louis Hawks and was later traded to Boston (Sportsecyclopedia). Russell attended college at San Francisco from 1953 to 1956. He faced many hardships throughout his career there which were mostly conflicts involving his race (Greenfield 14). One incident being Russell and few other black teammates were denied entry into a hotel for an away game. After the his last college season he received many accolades them being Most Valuable Player in the Final Four and a First Team All American. In the 1956 NBA Draft Bill Russell was the main target of Red Auerbach. Russell perfectly fit what Auerbach was looking for in a player but the Celtics were a good team and were in the bottom of the draft. The front office of the Celtics trade great players to bring Russell onto the team and came away with two more great players (Britannica). Bill Russell wouldn’t make his NBA debut until later on in the season due to his US Olympic commitment where he would come away with the gold in Melbourne, Australia (Sportsecyclopedia). On December 22, 1956 Russell played in his first league game and impressed everybody in the Boston crowd with his defensive prowess. His presences on the team led the Celtics to a forty four win and twenty two losses record which would more than enough for them to enter into the postseason with a chance for the team to win their first championship since the team’s creation.
