Herbie is a short story written by Archie Weller. In the story there is a group of boys who constantly pick on a helpless victim called Herbie. At the beginning of the story it is revealed that the reason Herbie was being bullied was because he was Aboriginal. The story is written in alarming detail about the twisted events that lead to Herbie’s death and a life of guilt and regret for the group of boys who killed him.
The main issue in the story is racism. The boys tormented Herbie because he had different colour skin to them and they didn’t like anyone who was different. They didn’t know any better.
