Junot narrate us a brutal but compelling , story in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. He uses this character to describe the lives of Dominican family living in New Jersey . Through out the novel the character’s lives are overflowing with injustice, unrequited love,lost opportunities, and all type of cruelties .The novel develops mainly in two places New Jersey and Dominican Republic , where on one side the family suffers the massive repression of the Trujillo regimen and in the other the have to confront the strong prejudice present on the United States. …show more content…

In this array of brief stories, Diaz shows the struggle of Dominican immigrants in the U.S to achieve “El sueño americano”. Every story is related, but in a different storyline , each with its own title. The novel doesn’t follow a typical story arc but rather each story reflects a moment in time. Drown is seen through the eyes of an educated adult, and placed mainly in the 1980s, with much of the plot taking place in the narrator’s childhood. Yunior, the main character , narrates the story of his family’s immigration to the U.S from the island.

The purpose of this research was to study the use and reference to political , social and cultural issues that Junot Diaz makes throughout his novels and stories. Especially the interculturation phenomenon that takes place in the U.S. The novels choosed for this papers were : “Drown” and “The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao”
