Adnan Syed’s innocence

Don’t you feel everyone should receive a fair trial when being accused of a crime? Well, 19 years ago, on January 13, 1999, a boy at Woodland High School in Baltimore named Adnan was accused of manual strangling of a girl named Hae Min Lee. He supposedly told Jay Wilds, a buddy of his, that he was going to kill her. After Hae’s missing body was recovered, Jay went to the police and the state used his testimony against Adnan. Recently, a serial podcast was developed by Sarah Koenig, a detective who goes deeper into the case and believes Adnan may be innocent. It can be conceived Adnan is innocent because Jay’s story kept altering details and sounds untrustworthy, Adnan had very little time to kill Hae, and because Adnan …show more content…

When Jay turned Adnan over for killing Hae Min Lee, he told the police all about what happened on January 13, 1999, including where they went, etc. When asked about the same questions some time later, Jay Wilds changes some details. “In the second taped interview, Macgillivray confronts Jay – ticking off a list of the main things he's lied to him about and Jay admits to all the lies.” (Episode 4, pg. 65). Usually, when people are interviewed by police, they don’t lie to the police and only tell the truth. Since Jay lied about what happened, he might have been hiding important details that could change the police’ perspective of the scenario. In addition to this, Sarah Koenig comments on Jay’s mixed responses to police interviews. Jay lied about where he saw Hae Min Lee’s dead body in Adnan trunk. “Because it’s not something you forget – where you were when you saw a dead body in the trunk of a car. It's not a slip of the tongue and it's not clear what the calculation is. Edmondson Avenue versus the Best Buy parking lot.” (Episode 4, pg.64). He might have lied about other parts of the murder also, which could prove why Adnan is harmless. Thus, Adnan’s purity in abiding to the law can be assumed likely since the main witness against him had stated unreliable information and thus, Adnan can’t be held guilty under Jay’s …show more content…

After Adnan broke up with Hae Min Lee, some people said he felt terrible about it. He may have possibly felt jealous about Hae’s new boyfriend. Jay expresses how Adnan felt about his breakup.“Um, he told me that she broke his heart, that it was extremely wrong for anyone to treat him that way. Um, that he couldn’t believe how she stood and looked him face to face and told him she didn’t love him and could be that heartless and he told me that almost joking “I think I’m going to kill her, yeah, I think I’m going to kill her.” (Episode 2, pg.36). This evidence shows that he liked Hae a lot and must have been very mad at her for their breakup. Because he was mad, he might have felt like he lost everything and might have gone out of control in his actions. Though, other people say Adnan was very normal about their breakup and in fact, since he was a very charming guy, had gone out with many other girls after they broke up. Sarah Koenig confirms with some girls if Adnan had gone out with them. “This is Anjali, the girl in Philly. She confirmed. Yup. Couple of visits. They made out. Nothing too serious. On New Year's Eve, Adnan met another girl, Nisha from Silver Spring, Maryland. And he started calling her a lot too. Adnan's friend Mac remembered Adnan making out with another friend of theirs at a party that January. ” (Ep.2, p.37). This evidence suggests that
