Should we hire Atticus Finch? The law firm of Duterte is searching for a new lawyer. They deal with various cases, most of them are really serious, therefore they need a person who can handle cases skillfully and seriously. Recently, the family of Ewell reported a black man for assaulting one of their family member, Mayella. Although the verdict was guilty, Atticus showed a remarkable performance on holding the case. Based on the evidence and rhetorical appeals made during the trials, Atticus Finch should be hired by our law firm. Every witness said details that made them believable or not to the juries and audience. Sheriff Heck Tate was the first person to narrate the affair. Atticus trick to Bob Ewell worked, “you’re left-handed Mr. Ewell” (237). Judge Taylor and the audience were suspicious. After Atticus asked the witness who had seen Mayella about where was the black eye of Mayella, he finally used the detail to trick Mr. Ewell. Mayella’s black eye was in her right eye, so technically a left-handed person did that to her. The people were listening attentively and it got to the point where they thought that Bob Ewell was the one who beat up Mayella. Atticus made many people believe in his side. Tom was struggling to tell what had Mayella told him “what her papa do to her don’t count” (260). He was scared because people might not believe in him. In this statement people could vision the life of Mayella, she’s lonely, abused and molested, they felt sympathy for her. Tom Robinson said sadly “Mr. Finch if you was a nigger like me, you’d be scared too” (260). He knows the law: colored guy touching a white woman is considered rape. He was trying to get judges understand his position so they could understand how hard it is for him to state what really happened.
