In 1985 Steven Avery was wrongfully convicted of a sexual assault he didn’t commit. During the time that led up to this event, Steven Avery threatened a spouse of a deputy sheriff ( she is also his cousin) with a rifle, which he stated was empty. This all happened in Manitowoc County in Wisconsin. It is claimed the Avery family never really fit in with the surrounding community and were seemingly considered uncultured troublemakers. Steven Avery did have previous convictions of burglaries and animal cruelty. Even with a past like this, I strongly believe that no one deserves to be treated and prosecuted the way Manitowoc and Calumet County did to him. October 31, 2005 Teresa Halbach disappears. 3 days later on November 3rd Teresa was reported …show more content…
They found the vehicle on the property. Even though it was found there it doesn't excuse the probability of someone else driving it on the property. This prompted them to get a warrant and they conducted an 8 day search of the property. At this point in time Calumet County where in charge of the case and Manitowoc County were not supposed to have any access to anything dealing with the case, because of their current lawsuit from Steven Avery. Kratz tried to cover this up but as later found out all of the "heavy" evidence that he had was found by police officers of Manitowoc County. They searched Avery's house many times on the first 6 days of the search, it wasn’t until the 7th day that the key magically appeared in plain sight in the bedroom. The claim by Colborn was he violently shook the dresser and the key fell. It is quite interesting that the key fell but yet no one heard or saw it until he alerted them of the key on the floor. Not even the officer who was "babysitting" them during the time they …show more content…
It was quite interesting to hear about a brutal and malicious murder according to Kratz but there was no evidence of blood or DNA to put her anywhere in his house or garage. After they searched another person found a bullet that apparently came from a gun on Avery's wall. When the analyst received the bullet she received an email from the prosecution investigator that told her to place Teresa in that garage. This sounded really off to me because it sounds as if they want her to do whatever she can to make sure the results comes back to Teresa. Then the analyst accidentally contaminated the test and did a test that she could only do one time and claimed it matched Teresa. Which is horrible because there are plenty of processes that can amplify a small DNA sample to let more test happen which is a route she should have taken. By here doing that test she completely destroyed a chance for the defense to do their on test to double check if that analyst got the real results. Usually if contaminated evidence is presented then the results would be canceled, because of the case she had apparently they just went ahead and allowed it be used (which they really shouldn't have). Another thing they tried to use to put her in the house was fuzzy handcuffs that they found but it turned out those cuffs didn’t have any of their DNA on
