In the book Readings for Sociology by Garth Massey the reading “Racism and Research: The Case of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study” by Allan M. Brandt is a revelation of the mistreatment racism caused to many innocent people in the history of the United States. This reading focuses on the medical health abuse that was committed to four hundred African Americans in the Tuskegee Study. Between the 1930’s and 1970’s African Americans in Macon County, Alabama where subjects of horrific scientific research by the U.S. Public Health Service that exposed them to syphilis and denied them of any treatment including penicillin.
