Revenge Literacy Analysis Revenge is getting even with someone who did you wrong in your own eyes. Revenge can drive someone crazy, just like how it drove Jimmy crazy for revenge on a hot summer night. Jeremy thought it would be funny if he slipped laxatives in Jimmy's drink after a long session of basketball at the outdoor basketball park. Jimmy was practicing his free throws as he slipped a quarter of the container into Jimmy’s soda. What Jeremy did not know is that Jimmy saw him when he carried out the cruel act. What do you think Jimmy would have done? Certainly not let it slide. In life many inhumane things, or crimes, are carried out through revenge. The setting of the helps to reveal the corruption of Montressor because it helps establish the dark, sinister, atmosphere of the story. The story fits this outlook by beginning around dusk, one evening during the carnival season in an unnamed European city. The location quickly changes from the lighthearted activities associated with such a festival to the damp, dark catacombs under Montresor's palazzo. According to the “Cask of amontillado” Montresor states that “my heart grew sick, on account of the catacombs” by him stating that it shows how guilty he is. Montressor is opening his eyes and his heart is feeling the reality. In “The coffin” Bradbury presents the theme that greedy individuals dig their own grave. This is shown through tone and characterization. Richard was very greedy, didn't listen to his brother and ended up paying the ultimate price, which was dying.
