In the story “The Cask of Amontillado,” written by Edgar Allan Poe there is a familiar setting that starts off the story but then turns to more of a dark and enclosed space, where bad things happen. First, the setting starts in a familiar where people can relate to when Poe wrote “It was about dusk, one evening during the supreme madness of the carnival season, that I encountered my friend,” on page one. In other words, this meant that even though it is night, there are many people around so Poe gives off the feeling that nothing bad will happen. Next, the setting starts to change to a more gothic theme on page four when it said “We passed through a range of low arches, descended, passed on, and descending again, arrived at a deep crypt.” To
