Agamemnon is the king of Mycenae, the son to Atreus (father) and Aerope (mother), and brother to Menelaus, Pleisthenes, and Anaxibia (Kravitz 12). To some people Agamemnon was a good leader, others think differently. The story of Agamemnon portrays how the overconfident/ egotistical side of him leads him to death and his kingdom into danger. Agamemnon believed in the Hubris way of life. Meaning, Greeks must face their death with pride and dignity and gain as much fame as possible (Wilkersham 1).
The story of Agamemnon starts with the death of his father Atreus. Atreus died from being murdered by his brother (Wilkersham 1). Afterwards, Agamemnon and his brother, Menelaus, move to Sparta (Wilkersham 1). Agamemnon believed that he would make …show more content…

The cause of the battle was because Menelaus, the new king of Sparta, had a wife named Helen. Pairs, the son of the king of Troy, went to a trip to Sparta and fell in love with Helen (Wilkersham 1). Due to Helen being ‘captured’ as Menelaus called it, Menelaus declared Agamemnon to lead the Greeks to battle with Troy. (Wilkersham 1) Sadly, while about to sail to Troy Agamemnon made Artemis angry and Artemis cursed Agamemnon by making the winds to low for sailing. The servant was a daughter of a priest (Chryses) who served the god Apollo (Wikipedia 1). Chryses begged for his daughter back, and Achilles demanded him to give her back but Agamemnon refused. Due to Agamemnon refusing to give her back to Chryses, Apollo cursed the Greek army with a horrendous plague killing most of the soldiers (Wilkersham 1). Agamemnon said he would give her back in one condition; if Achilles will give him Brises, a female slave that Achilles was very found of. This caused Achilles to surrender from the army, making the Greeks lose very badly. Achilles soon joined again and killed Hector the prince of Troy. Agamemnon took the Trojan princess Cassandra as an award (Wikipedia 1).
Soon after Agamemnon returned to Mycenae, he found his wife, Clytemnestra, remarried. When agamemnon saw Clytemnestra for the first time since returning home she prepared a bath for him. When Agamemnon got out of the bath Clytemnestra wrapped him in net while her new husband stabbed him to death and she killed Cassandra (Agamemnon’s new wife). It is said that Clytemnestra decided to kill him for revenge from him killing their daughter Iphigenia.
