After many complications with Latin America, the Spanish-American War is finally upon us. It all started with the Cuban rebellion. In the early months of 1898, riots began to erupt in Havana, Cuba. This began to worry American citizens. Mckinley, our president, sent a ship called the U.S.S. Maine to Havana’s harbor. President Mckinley only did this to protect the citizens of America and their property, he had no interest in starting a war. Then a horrible event occurred. On February 15th, 1898, the U.S.S. Maine sunk. The cause of this was unknown however it seemed like the Spanish attacked the ship, which caused tension between our nations.

Before our ship was attacked, United States newspapers published a letter from the Spanish ambassador,
