Zimbardos Stanford prison experiment. Milgram had put up an electric chock machine and gave the test person questions to ask another person in the other room, if the person answered incorrectly they had to give them an electric shock. The voltage went up to a fatal amount which was stated for the test person. There was a person present who were responsible for the experiment and that could be a contributing factor to why so many of the test people went all the way up to the fatal dose. They were capable of following orders which could lead to death for someone innocent, just like the germans in the second world war. This displayed a side of us which we like to think that our morals would triumph our obedience. Many of us would probably just follow the orders given to us and be a part of the system. We do have an evil and cruel side of ourselves. Dr. Zimbardo also tested this topic, by letting volunteers in to a staged prison divided into to categories; guards and prisoners. The guards were given authority over the prisoners who had done nothing wrong, it could just as well have been them. Here too humanities cruel and evil side came out to play. As the guards with their uniforms and glasses transforms and let their evil side shine, as they start to treat the prisoners very badly and humiliate them. The prisoners are not people anymore to the guards, they have been dehumanized by replacing their name with numbers and so on. Just after a few days the experiment even had to be cancelled as it had gone to far. Perhaps we all have that side of our selves somewhere inside us, some more and other less, maybe it only displays itself in those kind of situations and not in daily
