In “Deported” by Shannon Freeman , the main character Marisa is faced with a lot of things throughout this novel. High school drama has a way of solidifying or destroying friendships. High school can be a way leading people in the wrong path. In high school it is time to grow up and thing about you future. In the novel the theme is based on the characters dealing with all their not so good experiences during high school. Marisa is one of the main characters in the novel. Marisa is graceful and articulate, but often too driven. She is trying to cope with her father being deported and with other things going on in her life, I feel as if she is going to have a melt down. She is focused on one goal throughout the book and it is to graduate. Her father is being deported because of court issues and her brother cannot stay out of trouble with gangs and some how she is involved with it all which puts more stress on her. With the help of her mother and siblings it’s no way she can maintain a A average and still take care of home where there is slack. Brandi is smart and outgoing, but sometimes insecure and gullible . Meanwhile, Brandi begins healing from her traumatic spring. Her story is revealed through confession. She explains how her being kidnapped is affecting her on a day to day basis, and with no support from friends or family with the incident or school, she tries hard to keep her composure. She related to the overall theme of the novel because, she also is dealing with a lot of things and with he being traumatized from that experience really makes it even harder for her to be herself again. “He thought having me was like having a piece of his sister back.”… “if it had not been for my sister believing I was alive, I might not be today.” … “You are a very brave girl and braver for sharing you story with
