Although on his Kentucky farm, Mr. Shelby treats his slaves relatively humanely, but when he fall into the high debts due to his mismanagement of the household finances or even faces lost his farm. He made a decision to sell a few slaves like Tom and Eliza’s son, Harry to slave trader to raise his needed capital. In this matter, Arthur Shelby not only broke his code of ethics, but also broke his world.
