They consist of a greyish-brown color on their shoulders and back, in addition to having white fur on their limbs and stomach (Lang, 2005). These primates are herbivores, meaning they eat predominantly plants and fruit. However, they have been known to hunt for insects, as well. The average lifespan of the cotton-top tamarin is about 23 years (in captivity) (Bridgeman, 2002).
The elephas maximus can live up to seventy years of age and is from the Eocene Era, over fifty five million years ago. It can grow up to two and a half to three meters in height and ninety to one hundred and ten pounds in weight. It is an elephant that has tusks, a trunk, a lot of hair, smooth skin, and freckled, not pigmented, grayish skin. It’s skin is on the shiny side. The fossil shown in Geology Hall appears to be the elephas maximus’s ear or piece of its ear.
Ava the Elephant Update – See What Happened After Shark Tank Ava the Elephant Before Shark Tank Ava the Elephant, originally called Emmy the Elephant, is a medicine dispenser that eliminates the scare many young children get when taking oral medicine. It was founded by Tiffany Krumins when one of the children she was watching would refuse to take medicine. With a background in medicine, Tiffany knew that many parents faced similar issues and that children weren’t afraid of the medicine, but rather the process.
Then, we have Babar the Elephant who lives a carefree life until his mother is killed by hunters sacrificing herself for the herd’s safety. As the story continues young Babar is faced with the same situation and brave like his mother risk his life to save the herd as well. Amazingly, he 's not murdered only separated from his family so and learns to survive on his own. Personally, I think it’s sad how Elephants are killed by polluters for their tusks. In King Leopold’s Ghost, he used his power to rob Africa of its natural wealth which included ivory and many other resources.

I chose to research and discuss the religious significance of elephants in India. In Hindu the elephant represents royalty, wisdom, power, and intelligence. Elephants are native to India and are revered in their culture. Indian royalty would often travel in processions on top of an elephant as way to represent their majesty and royal status. Perhaps this practice was influenced by the Hindu representation of the God of God’s, Indra riding on a white elephant named Airavath, which was given to him as a gift after emerging from the ocean (V. Jayaram).
The childhood dream of owning a pet monkey or tiger is a common one, but that’s all that owning an exotic animal should be: a dream. Over 10,000 exotic animals are trafficked into the United States each year, a multi-million-dollar industry on the black market. Owning a wild animal may seem fun and exciting, but with the ownership of such a creature, dangerous consequences follow. The ownership of an exotic animal not only puts the owner 's life at risk, but the animal 's and the environments. There is a common theme among people that it 's humanity 's responsibility to preserve the world we live in, yet there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild.
As stated in “Do elephants belong in zoos?”, zoos not only fund research on wild animals but also contribute to reducing the conflicts between them and people, for example, by planting crops that frighten elephants away and exploring the cases of poaching that could affect their mortality (Cohn 717). Moreover, most of the scientific matter on elephants such as facts about their communications, reproductive physiology and behavior were originally gathered on the ground of captive animals (Cohn 717). In his article, Borrell expresses the same opinion. He states that zoos serve as “a living museum” that help scientists to find necessary information on species for the research, and these facts can be used to prevent the extinction of the animals living in the wild (Borrell 9). Besides, zoos are crucial for raising money for conservation programs by giving people firsthand wildlife experience that increases interest in wild animals (Borrell 9).
