I like the book, The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare because of its theme, Jace’s and Clary’s interactions, and the story’s concept of the Shadow World relating to the conflict. First, I like The City of Bones for its theme. In fact, the theme is that thing are not always as they may seem. This applies to the main character, Clary, because she was swayed by her overprotective mother’s lies that her father is dead. In truth, Clary’s father is very much alive, and her mother is a Shadowhunter in exile. Due to her reputation and the enemies she has made, Clary’s mother continues her life with Clary as a human, and as a result, she is overprotective of Clary’s well-being because she wanted to keep Clary safe from the dangers of the Shadow World. …show more content…
After Clary asks him about the girls staring at him, he replies that he is “stunningly attractive” (Clare 86). When Clary deadpans that modesty is also an attractive trait, ace rubs it off and says that ugly people only say that. Clary, annoyed, wonders what those girls see in him. As shown by the example above, Jace is hopelessly narcissistic and has a great ego about his looks, which greatly annoys Clary who thinks that the inside in a person also counts. This shows why I like Jace and Clary’s interactions because since they have opposing personalities, they often would disagree and argue over certain things, which is entertaining for me, the reader. Lastly, I like The City of Bones for its concept of the Shadow World and its relation to the conflict. For example, the Shadow World is shared with Shadowhunters, humans with angelic blood that enables them to possess supernatural abilities to slay demons, and Downworlders, who are hybrids of demons and humans.
