On one side was the democratic West, led by the United States, versus the communist East, led by the Soviet Union. The Cold War was a period of tension, fear, and occasional conflict, but it was also a time of great growth and change, with enormous advancements in science and technology, as well as the birth of new political philosophies and strategies.

One of the primary conflicts during the Cold War was the struggle between democracy and communism. Communism was a radical ideology that sought to destroy capitalism and create a classless, stateless society where everyone worked and lived together.
