Upon joining the Chamber Orchestra Ensemble here at Texas A&M International University, it served as a useful learning experience in knowing whether I would want to pursue music as a career. After completing middle school education, music as a career was supposed to end for me because the school district did not allocate enough funds in order to create a specific music ensemble program. Thankfully TAMIU’s string ensemble welcomed students such as myself under these situations, and under Prof. Brendan Townsend’s instruction, I was able to partake in the Chamber Orchestra Ensemble until I enrolled in the class. Throughout Roldan’s years of teaching at a university, she has been asked several similar questions by concerned students “How can yourself create a big name for yourself?” in other words, how to obtain that renowned status in the world. Dr. Roldán replies with the common response “artists must nurture their talents through practice, constantly searching for the ideal sound, ease of playing and fine-tuned reading and listening skills” and then adds a sort of key element to the routine “Ensemble practices enhances the capacity to capture and synchronize one’s pulse with someone else’s, and through the discipline of constantly having to listen to each other, it further develops the musical ear” which defines the very basis of ensemble practice, to work together as one (pg. 102). This is one key element and purpose that Ensemble Performance serves to enhance the performer’s musical experience. Roldán stresses the result of other ideals and expresses her elements of importance in music performance as educators and music lovers. The first key element Roldán specifies in the article, is that “the teacher must be a source of inspiration” ultimately explaining that, in order for the student to continue furthering their music education experience a student must get their inspiration from somewhere. I hope to follow this first element to par because I would like for students to appreciate their teachers because of the amount of time and attention each teacher puts toward the learning experience. The teacher must know and be empowered by the knowledge that music has the capacity to affect all human responses… The teacher must also create an ideal learning and teaching environment.” stressing another element where the environment
