The desire to feel accepted throughout all societies has been an element that has ceased to waiver throughout the years and due to the world of business, specifically Hollywood, there has been the release of many novel based films, but due to this pressure and necessity for acceptance there has been some great and not so great films. For example, the film The Color Purple based on the novel written by Alice Walker was directed by Steven Spielberg, although his film got the point across he omitted some important information for the sake of the limited time window to provide all of the important information to the patrons who choose to see the movie. The relationship of Celie and Albert seems to be cut short when the movie is compared to the book. In the novel, Celie and Albert initially have a relationship that is thrust upon them from Celie’s Pa unwillingness to marry off her sister Nettie so instead, he gives Mr.___ Celie and, to seal the deal, a cow(12). The film does a decent job of depicting this, but does not necessarily go quite into depth on the sexism and how cruel the men truly were. Towards the end of the novel, Mr.__ becomes Albert as a friendship begins to emerge between Celie and him. They bond through their loss and love for sShug. Celie teaches him how to sew and they work together on the pants for her business and seem quite content together (279) compared to how they originally were chained to one another. The movie doesn't even come close to this portion of the novel, they leave him as Mr.__ a miserable unsuccessful man whose only attempt to redeem himself is when he goes to allow Nettie and the children back in the country. This comparison shows how the film left out a very important portion of the novel that shows the lessening of sexism and the development of roles often thought to be a “woman's job” that helped to create an environment that allowed for friendship between the
