Violence and Love
Alice Walker who is the writer of The Color Purple book indicated many real situations. In this book, I want to mention Segregation, Love, and Violence. Segregation plays an important role in this story, and by studying the situations in the book, we can realize that there are a lot of differences between black and white people which was clearly shown through the race and the life of the characters. Also, the story focuses on some characters’ that face abuse, violence, and cruelty. Moreover, the story emphasizes more on two characters who are Celie and Nettie. The Black woman fight against oppression or cruelty, not only because of race, but they did because of her gender. Also, slavery created a very bad view for black women because many of them are slavery and many white people try to against them. Walker’s novels talk about the psychology of a Black woman under the Western social order, touch on the “exoticism of Black women” and challenge stereotype molded by the white men in power (Bobo). As I mention before, Celie loves Nettle, and Nettle loves her back. After Celie took out in school by PA, Nettle tried to educate her. Celie pushed Pa away from Nettie so that Nettie can have a better life and continue her education. As a result, it indicates that love is the key to a strong relationship. I realize that Nettle is successful because Nettie is quite self-sufficient and Nettie never judges her personal worth in relation to men. According to this situation, man or husband is another possible to make the women’s life
