My topic today is the comparison between softball and baseball. There are many similarities between softball and baseball, such as the scoring system, both receive one point for each run.
Another similarity in both sports is you get three strikes and four balls, three strikes means you are out and four balls means you get to take your base or walk as it is called. There are also many similarities in the equipment used, both use a ball to pitch, a bat to hit with and a glove to catch with. Both softball and baseball are played on a diamond-shaped field and use the same positions in the field, for example, pitcher, catcher, infield and outfield. Another similarity is they both have a pitching rule, if you replace the pitcher during the game you can not put that pitcher back in the remainder of that game. A baseball field is much larger than softball, softball plays on a much shorter field. In baseball they have 300 to 400 foot fences, in softball they play at 150 to 200 foot fences. Baseball players throw overhand on lifted mounds with a small sized white ball and softball players throw underhand on low pitchers mounds, with a much larger yellow ball.
