Christianity has experienced numerous interpretations that have been proven false and sacrilegious. During the twentieth century the Church faced one of its most difficult challenges yet with the conception of liberal theology. The definition of liberal theology is often described as the way modern interpretation methods can be applied to understanding God’s Word. Thus, the belief that there is no set dogma or principles within the church and that readers can choose how to live their life as a Christian however they please. Liberal theology began in the late eighteenth century and then really went to work influencing theologists on into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This happened because Christian philosophers were beginning to be constrained to not being called philosophers at all, instead they were strictly called theologians.
