Gun violence involves every segment of our society, such as school shootings, robbery, and kidnapping. Gun violence raises the death rate in the incidence of domestic violence, increases the probability of fatalities by people who are intended to kill or injure others and also among people who attempt suicide. The Injury Mortality Report shows, “Firearms were used in 19,392 suicides in the U.S. in 2010, constituting almost 62% of all gun deaths” (qtd. in “Statistics on the Dangers”). Of many numbers of people commit suicide with firearms, make guns more dangerous for citizens to own one. However, armed civilians are unlikely to stop crimes and are more likely to make dangerous situations. A report shows that “none of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012 were stopped by an armed civilian” (Follman “More Guns”). As more citizens own a gun, more violence might happen in people’s daily life. School shootings are also concerns in the United States. Although the most school shootings rarely involve many victims, even a shooting of just one person at a school has adverse ramifications to victims far beyond when they are directly involved. Individuals who witness mass shootings are likely to suffer from traumatic stress symptoms, and become anxious or depressed and have general concerns about their safety. Many witnesses will only have temporary symptoms; however, others will be anxious for a long time, and they might even develop other mental disorders and suffer from them. Banning guns and gun sales from the public is necessary because of the death and injuries that are caused by firearms. The threat of guns in the United States is astonishing. More guns in the society mean the society will be more dangerous for people to live. People would always concern about getting shot. Moreover, guns create an unsafe environment for people to live. Firearms used by criminals cause many deaths among the population in the United States. Also, the average age of the firearm users has been going down, but deaths or injuries by firearms have been increasing. Furthermore, the disadvantages of owning guns in citizens’ hands are a lot more than the advantages of guns. Especially, a gun gives a motivation that results in gun violence. When all guns are banned, suicides and homicides will decrease, young people will not be able to obtain a firearm and be in dangerous situations, and it would lessen many deaths that occur every year. Also, children will have a safer home to live in. If only banning certain guns, other types of firearms will still be used in crimes.
