What was the Constitution? The Constitution was created as one of the most important documents in United States history. It is the heart of the country, the backbone of its freedom. The Constitution was needed for many reasons, and its process of being created was a difficult one. The minds of our Founding Fathers have had success in taking under this massive project under the oath of our country. They have had debates and compromises, but achieved success in the long run. One of the major parts of the Constitution was the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was ratified on March 1, 1781. It was the first written document of the Constitution, and established “a firm league of friendship” among the states. The Articles of Confederation “created a structure that more closely resembled an alliance of independent states than a government ‘of the people’” (?). This meeting called for the importance of adopting a new government and helping to bring about the safety and happiness of America. The main framers who attended this meeting included Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Roger Sherman, John Adams, and George Washington, who was elected president of the session. These main authors wanted to add some flexibility to the document, without it being too easy to change. Some main ideas were not only to form a new government and bring safety and happiness to the country, but also many compromises, such as the Connecticut Compromise and the Three-Fifths Plan.
