The city of Toronto is known for its large population and busy atmosphere. With such a high demand for travelling services for such a large amount of commuters throughout the city, Toronto has been forced to adapt to new innovated technology in order to keep up to date with the growing population of commuters. One controversial issue in particular that is taking a wide spread hit to not only Toronto but surrounding cities like Mississauga is the growth of the service company Uber. The company Uber has become a local issues known by many citizens of Toronto due to the high controversy of the case. Uber is an online transportation network company run by a phone app allowing cheaper and faster rides much like taxis. Uber allows the customer to ride without the use of cash or calling a dispatcher. The low fees and convince for customers made Uber greatly take off through out the whole Greater Toronto Area. The controversy over uber originated from the protests of the taxi drivers who are loosing a large portion of their income and services from the commuters to Uber. During numerous protests at City Hall, City TV News reported the arguments the taxi drivers raised against the company. It was argued among the taxi protestors that Uber drivers are seen as illegal due to their “ lack of qualifications and training” and “ fail to obey the rules and regulations that the city created.” They continued their protest on City TV News coverage by saying that Taxis are required to “ have an official Toronto Taxi Licence, background checks, and proof of insurance to make your ride safer” all in which Uber drivers lack.
