There have been many controversial discussions about whether it is a good idea to extend the school year or not. An extended school year would be beneficial for students, parents, and the schools themselves. An extended school year would be a benefit to students. If the school year was longer students would be able to learn more material, and go deeper into subjects. If there was school year-round than students would get to be involved in sports and school activities year-round, so that they are not bored at home getting into trouble. During the summer, when school is out and parents are at work. Some kids are often left home by their selves, and are bored, so they go out and get involved in activities that may get them into trouble. Also, with an extended school year children would still be able to get breakfast and lunch at school. The breakfast and lunch at school is all some children get to eat in a day. …show more content…

If school was year-round, parents would not have to worry about the financial burden of child care during summer months. An extended school year would make it so parents wouldn’t have to worry about how they would feed their children during these months, because children would get breakfast and lunch at school. There are parents who are living from check to check, and they don’t always have enough money to feed their children even one meal a day. Also, this would lessen the burden of parents to make sure their student is retaining the information they have learned during the school year over the summer
