The Crepuscular Figure: A Short Story

As I sat exhausted in the poorly lit kitchen doing my monotonous homework, I suddenly realized that someone- or something- was intently watching me through the screen door. Consequently, all the hairs on my neck stood up straight. Furthermore, I didn’t know why they were there, though I was hoping it wasn’t to do anything harmful to me. My eyes couldn’t perceive much of anything, but as the crepuscular figure came slightly closer, I could clearly gaze at their- or, her, as I now realized- distinct features. She appeared to be about my age, 13, though perhaps they were a bit more elderly. Honestly, I couldn't tell. Nevertheless, she still terrified me. It flowed from her soulless eyes, past her beaten nose, and down to her elongated and sharp teeth. Unsurprisingly, these stained teeth reminded me of Dracula. They had hue of a bright rose, though I assume they were originally white. Obviously, some of the blood did flow down her teeth and to her chin. However, the rest of the sticky, red substance seemingly disappeared; I assume it went down her throat, but I don’t know. As I finally yanked my eyes away from her disturbing face, I finally glanced at the rest of her, and what she was wearing. Her shirt was a white button-down that had all the buttons done, and I noticed that it was practically choking the life out of her. But, a section of my mind told me that she didn't actually have any life. She was barefoot, and a black skirt that went down to her knees. Then, I heard a gurgling sound, and eventually, what I hoped not to be a voice. “Hi”, was what it sounded like. I hoped that was the end of the form of torture that I was experiencing, but it continued. “Do you know what it’s like to drown?” Out of nowhere, and to my shock, she
