The criminal justice system plays a very pivotal role in society. It consists of three main components: police, courts, and corrections. The reason the United States of America is so safe and rarely seen as a dangerous Country, is because of the help from those major components. These components are also known as subsystems. The justice system is setup so that each person doesn't have to enforce the laws around themselves. This would harbor many problems because people have different interpretations of the law, decision making, and moral reasoning. These laws create a safe environment for us to feel safe and secure in society. They prevent and control crime in the community. They work with prosecutors in criminal investigations that can be used to convict them in the court. If we didn't have law enforcement we would have a messy justice system and there would be a lot more crime than usual. Law enforcement, organizations like the police provide a trained force with the responsibility of protecting every person as equals under the law. As stated by the CCSD, “Traditionally, police services focus on city-wide patrols, responding to calls, investigations and arrests.” The police are the first ones that make contact with offenders and they make very important and sometimes detrimental decisions on an individual's case. The police are also the most likely components of law enforcement that have an influence on everyday life. This is because we see the police every day on our local streets. All of the other members of the criminal justice system are outnumbered by them. They are also the most exposed to media depictions out of any of the other roles in the justice system. Correctional agencies’ main job to remove offenders from the rest of society and find ways to rehabilitate them or help them understand what had led them to breaking the law in the first place. The correctional system uses ways of monitoring those who have been accused of crimes and punishing them, while providing them with help so that they do not continue to commit the same crimes again. In some cases corrections is used as a replacement for those who may be on death row, which is more harsh. Rehabilitating offenders can lead to a more productive and less dangerous
