“A very manipulative and vindictive person.” That's how Arthur Miller describes Abigail Williams. She is always lying about something or trying to manipulate someone. Nobody will get in her way when her mind is set on something. Abigail has made many bad decisions which dramatically affected her throughout the whole play. Abigail has had a very big responsibility being the leader of the girls in the woods and in court. With John Proctor motivating her decisions, Abigail lying all the time, and Abby changing towards the end of the play. These are just a few things on how she is affecting Salem in the play The Crucible. John Proctor motivates Abigail's behavior the most. She had an affair with John and believes that he loves her. Abby wants to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor, so she can become John’s wife. “It’s a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman.” Abigail said. Abigail used to be a worker in the Proctor house, but she got let go because of the affair with John. After the affair Elizabeth Proctor trashed Abby and gave her a bad name in the village.
