The crucible by Arthur Miller took place in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. The play is mainly about innocent women in the town of Salem, who were blamed for practicing witchcraft. Many Women were taken away and put on trial for witchcraft. The main conflict of the play was an affair between John Proctor and a young girl named Abigail Williams. John Proctor is a farmer with a family and a wife named Elizabeth. Abigail Williams used to be his family's servant. John Proctor throughout the play felt guilty for committing adultery. He can best best be described as a classic tragic hero. Although, John Proctor never had the need to increase in self-awareness, he still had extreme pride for his downfall. The tragic hero in the play is not perfect.
