John Proctor is a person who lies to save himself and for his benefit. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller. He lied in his confession so he could be with his family.But many people saw him as a honest respectable man.
In The Crucible John Proctor confesses only to save his life. He refused to implicate anyone else. His confession was not all true, he lied in his confession to save himself and because his wife was expecting a child and he wanted to be with them. In act 4 John finds out that Giles Corey refused to answer the charge and is pressed to death. Rebecca Nurse is hanged as a witch for not confessing.
Elizabeth Proctor is understanding of John’s decision to confess. She understands because she knows that John wants to come back to his family.
