In play The Crucible by Arthur Miller there is a girl by the name of Abigail who throughout the whole story is portrayed as a psychotic little girl who practices witchcraft. She sleeps with John Proctor one time and automatically thinks they’re going to be together forever even though John has a wife. She also gulps chicken blood while dancing in the forest naked. Not only is Abigail insane, but all the women in this book are crazy because of their actions throughout the story. All the girls and women are maniacal, but the most delirious is a young girl at the age ranging in her teens. She works for the Proctors in their household; so this leads to a short affair with John Proctor and they wind up sleeping together even though John is married to a woman named Elizabeth. John immediately admits his mistake and regrets it; but Abigail thinks that because they had the affair they’re going to be with each other until death. John Proctor tells her that she is a married man and that it meant nothing to him; yet she keeps pleading and trying to persuade him to be with her. She even explains to him that she will go to the extremes of killing Elizabeth just to be with him and we see this when Abigail is in the forest …show more content…
This is part of the ritual for Abigail to try and curse Elizabeth but not only does she participate in it multiple other girls do as well and they probably don’t even know why they’re really there. As the ritual proceeds the girls end up naked dancing around the fire and still chanting while drinking chicken blood. Abigail does all of this just to try to give her a chance with John Proctor. Not only are the women crazy for the grotesque occult rituals they participate in, but there is also the obsession and desperateness shown from Abigail towards wanting to be with John.
