“It has been said that we are what we eat. I certainly am, and in the many seasons of my New York youth, that included an amazing amount of might good food,” claims Jessica B. Harris in her article “The Culinary Seasons of My Childhood” (119). Food is, in fact an important aspect of our character. The aspects of one’s identity can be clearly defined by the food he or she eats in that the food related choices made have a meaning which can be mapped out to define who are. For instance, the foods one takes comfort in are usually from their childhood, perhaps from a homemade meal or a special treat rewarded only on good behavior. He gives an example of the unleaded gas in a car versus the food that goes into one’s system. It states that no matter what brand of gas one may fill their car with, it will not affect how good or bad that car runs. With food, he states, it is different. It does matter what kind of food an individual consumes in his or her body that affects their productivity in that day. The food one may eat affects the cognition of that certain individual’s day. (Friedmon par 3) Mostly everything that is consumed is made into glucose which allows are brains to have energy. If an individual consumes low calories in that day, their productivity will be low. There is a certain aspect we need to consider in this argument. Different types of foods have different amount of times that they take to process in one’s body. For example, high fat meals take more time to provide the energy needed, while pasta, cereal, and soda release their glucose more quickly. The bad part is that people do not make wise decisions for their diet. (Friedmon par. 6)
The foods that contain unhealthy items tend to attract individuals. Fast food plays a huge part in these situations. Fast food saves a lot time, while cooking takes longer to make. Even though fast food is way faster, good performance one makes in that day will be less and less. This is why Ron Friedmon recommends consuming foods throughout the day. This will help make better decisions to when the body wants food. Instead of being hungry the whole day, an individual will feel satisfied.
