Three writing techniques Mark Haddon uses to portraying how Christopher thinks In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Mark Haddon shows how Christopher, someone with autism, operates. One way he demonstrates this is through the way that he goes off topic all the time. In one example, he goes from talking about going into his father’s room to talking about what objects Joseph Fleming eats in a couple of sentences. In another example, Haddon explains Christopher’s actions and opinions by spelling out why he likes timetables.
Character is the thing that defines a person. What you will do, what you will say, how you interact with the world. Admittedly, all of us have character. But, the character of Christopher is a very interesting and a complex one. In times, it feels as if he is an alien compared to everyone else.

An important character in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is Christopher's mother, Judy Boone. If Judy never had an affair with Mr. Shears, Wellington wouldn't have been killed and there wouldn't be a point to sending letters to Christopher. Her letters that Christopher found forced his father to explain the lies he told, which changed his attitude towards his father. Christopher no longer felt safe living with Ed, so he made the dangerous decision to venture out and find where his mother lived. His arrival at his mother's flat caused tensions to rise between her and Mr. Shears.
Christopher starts out by acting as Aspergers controls him. Christopher runs away from social interaction and communication. He goes on to challenge his Aspergers when he finds out that his father has been lying to him his whole life about his mother being dead. In the end Christopher sees the real world for what it is and doesn’t shelter himself through it. This makes the novel the perfect story the theme of coming of age.

The math that is presented in the book is very interesting and makes the book very unique from other books, but it is also kinda hard to follow and sometimes makes the text difficult to read. Having to get used to his chapter system, the random equations he puts in there, and not really needed insight on maths made it an interesting read, to say the least. When I first started reading this book it was difficult to start out because of how interesting his text is.
