After an altercation with an officer, the police tell Boone to discontinue his investigation into the murder, he does not follow these directions. Despite his father’s warnings, Christopher goes on with his investigation of a nail biting adventure with numerous obstacles in his way.

In the novel he begins to learn about the real world and grows throughout finding out who killed a dog named Wellington.
