In the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time,” Christopher John Francis Boone is an autistic boy who lives with his father and begins writing a book for the special school that he attends. The book helped him solve the mystery of the murder of the neighbor’s dog Wellington. The novel finishes with a bittersweet ending since Christopher receives a puppy and an A on his math test, but his parents are very angry at each other, and it’s hard for Christopher to trust his father once again. He goes to London to live with her, and while he’s there his mother and father are constantly fighting about who Christopher should be staying with. His father had shown up in London and had an enormous argument with his mother and Mr. Shears on why he lied about mother and why Christopher should come home with him. “And then he said, ‘Do you want to go back to Swindon to your father or do you want to stay here?’ And I said, ‘I want to stay here.’” This quote shows how Christopher is put in an awkward situation since he is almost forced to choose between his mother and father. At the time, Christopher felt uneasy with idea of being with someone who had murdered a dog for the fear of his own life. He felt more comfortable with mother and lost all of his trust with father. “And then I woke up because there were people shouting in the flat and it was 2:31 a.m. And one of the people was Father and I was frightened. But there wasn’t a lock on the door of the spare room.” … “And Mother shouted, ‘So you decided to just wipe me out of his life altogether?’” …” And Father shouted, ‘I cooked his meals. I cleaned his clothes. I looked after him every weekend. I looked after him when he was ill. I took him to the doctor. I worried myself sick every time he wandered off somewhere at night. I went to school every time he got into a fight. And you? What? You wrote him some fucking letters.” Mother and Father both had very opposing arguments on who was in the wrong. Both of them didn’t handle their situations in the way that they should have, so now it came down to Christopher finding out on his own and leading to this problem.
