Has one ever felt frustrated about what happens in their lives and just want to try to control it? People try to control their lives in many various ways. Routines and schedules help organize out how the day goes. It’s what makes us have a more sense of certainty and know the idea of what the plan is throughout the day. In The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, A fifteen year old boy, Christopher, is logical. Logical for him, is a nice way to have things in order and by doing so it makes him feel safe. He needs to have a type of routine everyday. Christopher tries so hard to control his life because he likes to have a routine. Routines help him know the order of what he’s doing. He has many various ways to know how the day is going to be. Everyday when he heads to school, he looks outside the window and counts the number of cars and what the color of the car is. “Mr. Jeavons the psychologist at the school, once asked me why 4 red cars in a row made it a Good Day, and 3 red cars in a row made it a Quite Good Day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and why 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day” (Haddon 24). Knowing if it’s a good day or a bad day helps him indicate how he acts throughout the day. When it’s a bad day he sits in the corner of the rooms during school and doesn’t talk to anyone. When it’s a good day he participates in class and does something fun after school. He tries to control his life through counting the cars so he knows how he should act everyday. He also likes to have a type of routine throughout the day. When he wakes up he knows what he has to do in the order of his routine. This makes him have a sense of what he’s doing at that time.
