“He’d just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Stanley Yelnats, the main character of this novel, Holes, started his life under a curse. Everything he and his family tries or do, causes a problem. But they weren’t always unlucky. At the end of the novel, Stanley has changed a lot by being friends with Zero, being at Camp Green Lake, and by digging holes. We’ll see what has happened to him by this essay. At the beginning of the book, Stanley was physically and mentally weak, lonely, and unlucky. On page 7, it says “He’d just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather!” This detail support ‘unlucky’ from my thesis statement. He is saying this sentence because Stanley was convicted that he stole Clyde Livington’s sneakers. And so he was sent to Camp Green Lake for a while. But he didn’t. He was innocent. So he’s blaming on his great-great-grandfather who brought the curse to Yelnats’s family. The second example is on page 7 too. It says “He didn’t have any friends at home. He was overweight and the kids in middle school often teased him about his size.” This supports

The first detail for my topic sentence is on page 208. It says, “He glanced at Zero. A lizard was perched on his shoulder.” This explains that Stanley now has a friend having the same pain as him or more pain than Stanley. And that he worries about Zero. To explain more about my topic sentence, the second detail is on page 217. It says “ ‘I can’t leave without Hector,’ Stanley said.” And this tells us that he has this good friendship with Zero, and that he doesn’t betray his friend. The last detail is on page 204. It says “Stanley felt tiny claws dig into the side of his face as the lizard pulled itself off his neck and up past his chin.” By this detail, we can conclude that he stays calm. Which means he got stronger
