Psychological paralysis where the victim becomes passive, desperate and defeatable is caused by BWS. Battered Women/person syndrome is caused by a long-term abuse ( Domestic violence) that primarily leads the victim to “learned helplessness” a belief that the victim is incapable of changing the reality. Instead, accept their phenomenon the way it is hoping that the abuser will eventually stop hurting the victim. The whole episode can be analyzed into the cycle of violence, where a three-phased series of events follow each other. Rose the narrator and protagonist of “Royal Beating” experiences each phase in the cycle within a timely manner. The cycle originates with tension building, a time where Rose’s stepmother and herself start their argument and the father was invented to solve the problem. Acute battering a stage where the abuser “ the father” goes out of control and begins using violence and blaming others for his actions. Everything was laid out as a play she knew that Flo would bring her cold cream she could memorize the smell of it. Later, she was sure that some of her favourite snakes would follow the cream “ latter still a tray will appear. Flo will put it down without a word and go away,” she even goes into describes what the tray would contain. Although the father nor Flo ever apologize to Rose, the tray of food was a form of acceptance and realization of the whole episode. Rose is no longer angry and the family gathers to have dinner as they would normally do.

In conclusion, the story of Royal Beatings is an excellent example of that describes the whole cycle of violence with its three phases. Rose as the narrator build the tension, father is called to play a role, she gets the beating, she gets her short honeymoon phase, everything goes back to normal and the cycle repeats
