The Danes: The Real Monster In Beowulf

About a thousand years ago in the 5th century a story about an unbelievable death of a monster happened in a place called Herot in northern Europe. I would like you to imagine that a murderous monster was living around where you live and nobody in your town could defeat it, what would you do? Would you ever think of living the lives the Danes were living then? The Danes were a small group of people, so could you think of how dangerous and strong this monster must have been to make everyone just give up on trying to kill him. They spent most of their time at a hall which was called Herot, was basically for the best and bravest of the Danes men. The whole town of the Danes was in such danger living in the same place as the evil monster, which was named Grendel. Hrothgar, the king of the Danes and his warriors have tried to defeat Grendel but, never had the bravery or confidence to do it again, after all of the lives Grendel took in the first attack. A very strong and brave leader of the Geats was willing to take a punch at Grendel. His name was Beowulf and he was a victorious leader, he wasn’t scared of a single thing. As he heard about the very dangerous monster, Grendel, Beowulf had to see what was going on with this heartless monster. He gathered his men and set sail to Herot to find out more about this monster. Beowulf was going to help Hrothgar and the Danes by killing Grendel himself and not for anything in return. Hrothgar told Beowulf that he was going to give him something in return no matter what Beowulf said because it was a huge favor. He said Beowulf was going to do this for all of the Danes, so Hrothgar decided that he was going to make Beowulf the king after he had slayed the horrendous monster, he would eventually take over Herot.
