“The Danger of Single Story” by Chimjamanda Ngozi Adichie was overall an effective speech. According to Adichie “on Love’ Adichie is a young women from eastern Nigeria and now lives in America and her speeches focus on the perspectives of life. In her speeches she uses powerful points from her past to explain her points; for instance, she showed the use of humor, discrimination, and honesty.
The flow in Adichies speeches help the announce stay focused. For instance, when she used humor to explain certain aspects in her life and how different they were from Americans. The roommate obviously had never been out of United States the way she was talking to Adichie. The roommate was so fascinated with Adichie, she wanted to know everything out her. Who would not Adichie was from a whole another country. She never realized how good people from other countries could speech English. In the American girls mind she did not think Adichie could use a stove. This was a girl from another country; let alone a poor country. By thinking like this she was putting Adichie down. Adichie “The Danger” explained,” What struck me was this: She had felt sorry for me even before she saw me. Her default position toward me, as an African, was a kind of patronizing, well-meaning pity.” Although Adichie explained it did not really bother her; this was one girl who read about Africans or saw something on television and whatever she read or saw, became how he started to view Africans. Adichie understood after a while that if she was born in the United States and herd something or saw something on Africans then she would have certain stereotypes on them. For example, seeing the commercial about children in Africa, who are poor and starving indicates a stereotype to me that all children who live in Africa are poor and in need for
